Discover the magnificence of traditional Indian craftsmanship with this extraordinary handmade octagonal marble inlay tabletop, a museum-quality piece that reflects centuries of artistic heritage. Crafted from pristine Makrana white marble, the same legendary stone used in architectural masterpieces, this tabletop showcases the highest levels of precision, skill, and ornamental beauty.
At the heart of the design lies a radiating floral mandala, symbolizing harmony, balance, and the continuity of life. Every petal, leaf, and curved vine is formed using individually hand-cut semi-precious stones, carefully selected for their depth of color, translucency, and natural brilliance. Rich tones of deep blue, turquoise, green, and subtle earthy hues are masterfully arranged to create a visually striking contrast against the luminous white marble base.
This fine artwork is created using the ancient Pietra Dura (or Parchin Kari) technique—an intricate stone inlay method perfected by Mughal artisans during the 16th and 17th centuries. The process begins with shaping raw stones such as lapis lazuli, turquoise, malachite, jasper, and mother-of-pearl into incredibly small fragments. These pieces are then set into meticulously carved cavities on the marble surface, held in place by a blend of natural adhesives and polished until the design appears completely seamless.
The octagonal shape adds geometric elegance and enhances the symmetry of the central mandala. A subtle border outlines the perimeter, giving the piece a finished, refined look. The polished surface reflects light beautifully, causing the embedded stones to shimmer from different angles.
This tabletop is not only a functional piece of furniture but also a timeless piece of art, suitable for:
Coffee tables
Accent or side tables

Its durability ensures that it maintains its beauty for decades, becoming a family heirloom treasured across generations. Whether placed in a contemporary living room or a traditional setting, it offers an instant touch of sophistication, cultural richness, and artistic depth.

History Of Inlay Art
· Inlay art on delicate precious stone began in the workshops of Florence in Italy around the end of the 16th century. This was known as PIETRA DURA. (Pietra= Stone, Dura= Hard). Of all the Mughal Emperors, Shah Jahan was the greatest patron of architecture in India. For him, no amount of money or time was too much to create enduring, everlasting architectural beauty and, through it be remembered always. It is in his buildings that one feels most compelled to make the connection between Mughal art and pietra dura. The Taj Mahal, the cenotaphs of the Emperor and his wife, the main floor, and the surrounding marble railings bear very close resemblances to the pietra dura form.
· Process of Inlay Art
“Inlay work” is one of the most attractive arts that is done from marble. Same type as that which adorns the Taj Mahal and other Mughal monuments. It is a closely protected traditional art, and only a few expert exponents are available today. The delicate process involves cutting and engraving marble shapes manually. To start with, a predefined pattern e.g., floral design or geometrical design, is engraved on the marble slab. Small pieces of marble of different shades are cut delicately to fit in these grooves precisely. These small pieces are then slipped into the grooves. There are many varieties of colored stone available for utilization in marble inlay work: malachite, cornelian, jasper, mother of pearl, abalone shell, lapis lazuli, agnate, coral, turquoise, and tiger eye, to name just a few. The grooves are filled with their precisely corresponding shapes of colored stone and secured in place with a white putty made from oil and wax. Once the design is completely dry, the piece is polished with a mixture of sand, water, and emery paper to give a shiny, smooth finish. Apart from marble, many other materials can also be used.
The semiprecious stones inlaid are as follows
1. Lapis lazuli ---------- Blue stone
2. Malachite --------- Green stone
3. Turquoise ---------- Light Blue
4. Carnelian --------- Orange Red
5. Mother of Pearl --------- White shiny
6. Abalone Shell --------- Colorful Shiny
7. Jasper ---------- Brown.
